What did you work on yesterday?
Yesterday I reviewed the progress of our 1st quarter diversity initiatives and continued to answer day to day benefits related questions from employees. I’ve been working closely with recruiting and leadership to find ways to be a little more creative with attracting additional qualified candidates to our workforce. We have a very talented workforce and value the different perspectives and views that our employees bring to Ridgeline and I’m excited about the results so far.
How would you describe what you do at Ridgeline?
My role is being a partner to our leadership and a support to our staff. I see myself as a resource as I stay on top of key human capital issues which allows us to remain compliant with federal and state employment laws.
Why did you come to Ridgeline?
I came to Ridgeline because I needed something different in my career. I experienced a lot of success at my former employer and didn’t see room for additional growth both personally and professionally. Prior to Ridgeline, I worked for a small defense contractor in Herndon, VA for over 20 years. The CEO was a great mentor to me. He encouraged me to finish my degree early in my career while raising 3 small kids and managing a growing HR Team. With the changes in government contracting over the last 5-10 years, I realized that I needed to do something different. After 17 years with my former employer, I left to go work for a mid-sized defense contractor but after approximately 7 months, our CEO requested that I return after they completed a management buyout. Shortly after I returned, I realized that the company that I worked for did not have the same feel as it once did after so many people that I considered my family left the company. Ridgeline was the change that I was looking for.
Why have you stayed at Ridgeline?
I have never worked for a company like Ridgeline. This company always puts the needs of our employees first. That hasn’t changed since I started working here and I know that I would never see this again at another company.
What advice would you give to someone considering working at Ridgeline? Why should they do it? Why should they not?
We have a diverse, talented group of professionals that are forward thinkers. I would say that if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and embrace an organizational culture that is hard working, creative and collaborative, then you will love working here. Team work is very important to us. If you prefer to work by yourself at all times, then this may not be the environment for you.
What kind of things do you enjoy outside of work?
My family is at the forefront of everything that I do. Whether I am supporting my youngest son at his football games, encouraging my daughter through her last year of classroom studies before rotations or supporting my middle son through his last few weeks before college graduation, I will always be a cheerleader for them. My husband is pretty amazing too and I’ve learned so much from him over our 27 years of marriage. We also love traveling together. Anywhere on a beach in the Caribbean is perfect for us!
